Een bezoeker van Open Ateliers vroeg mij een mezoeza te maken voor zijn nieuwe woning.
Omdat ik niet wist wat dat is heb ik dat opgezocht.
‘Mezoeza‘ is een Hebreeuws woord dat letterlijk deurpost betekent.
Met mezoeza wordt zowel het kokertje als het rolletje met tekst aangeduid.
In de mezoeza zit een rolletje met een stukje tekst uit de bijbel.
Officieel is het rolletje van perkament, met de Hebreeuwse tekst geschreven door een officiële schrijver.
Mezoezas bestaan in talloze varianten, van zeer gedetailleerd tot uiterst abstract, maar allemaal dragen ze de letter ‘Shin’ ש de eerste letter van Sjaddai : God.
Ik heb een soort landschap gemaakt met vooraan een poort, dan een kronkelig pad dat leidt naar en stadsmuur met daarachter een stad: Jeruzalem.
In het klein verbeeld deze mezoeza het levenspad.

I made a kind of landscape with a gate in front, then a winding path that leads to a city wall with a city behind it: Jerusalem.
